360 Jewelry Photography: Spin Views and Video That Sell

Why rotating views help customers decide, and how to capture them consistently.

Customers cannot pick up a ring online. A single front view hides the setting, the height of the stone and the way the band tapers. A 360° spin or a short rotating video replaces the "turn it over in your hand" moment, and it is increasingly common in jewelry e-commerce.

What is 360 jewelry photography?

It is a sequence of photographs taken while the piece rotates on a turntable, usually through a full turn, so that a viewer can drag or autoplay it as an interactive spin. The same rotation can be exported as an MP4 video for social media and product pages.

Why spin views and video help

  • They show proportions, depth and the setting from every side
  • They let customers judge how light moves across the stones and metal
  • They answer questions that would otherwise become customer service emails
  • They give you ready content for social media and marketplaces that accept video

What makes a good jewelry spin

  • A centred axis. If the piece wobbles off centre the spin looks jumpy; use holders that keep it stable
  • Constant light. The light should not change as the piece turns, or the frames will flicker
  • A consistent background. White, black or transparent, the same on every frame
  • Enough frames. More frames make a smoother rotation but heavier files; choose a number that suits your channel
  • Matching positions. Rings lying flat, upright or hanging earrings need different supports

How rings, earrings and necklaces differ

Rings are usually shot upright or tilted so that the stone faces the camera as it turns. Earrings and necklaces look more natural hanging than lying down, so a dedicated hanging support helps. ALO Photo Sphere includes a "Smiley" turntable designed to hang and capture earrings and necklaces in their natural position.

Practical tips for the web

  • Use a still image as a poster so the page loads quickly before the spin starts
  • Compress the spin frames and video, and test on a mobile connection
  • Keep the same number of frames across a collection so your viewer behaves identically
  • Give every image a descriptive alt text, for example "diamond halo ring, 360 degree view"

Capturing 360° at scale

Doing this by hand means turning the piece, taking a shot, turning again, then fixing inconsistencies in editing. For more than a few pieces it stops being practical. With an automated system the turntable and camera are managed by the software, the light profile is stored once and reused, and ALO App prepares the spin, the video and the stills from the same session.
